Ambassador Mazatzin Presents an Introduction to the Aztec Calendar
August 23, 2024
(Ambassador Mazatzin and myself wrote this article.)
The Federation of Aboriginal Nations of the Americas hosted its annual Meshanticut Cultural Placemaking Confestival this past August. Amongst the speakers was Mr. Guadalupe Casas Acosta, Mazatzin D. H. C,. FANA’s Director of Indigenous Affairs and Cultural Outreach to the United Nations, and its Ambassador to Mexico, Central America, and South America.
Ambassador Mazatzin did an Introduction to the Aztec Calendar, explaining its influence and relevance in these modern times:
He delivered a presentation with historical and cultural integrity and sensitivity describing a new approach exploring the essence of the Aztek Calendar and its relationship to the ancient Mexican Amoxtli (sacred book), and how this ancestral guide to the potentials of time, as illustrated in the Codices, is relevant to our lives today. The Amoxtli, now called the codex Borgia, is kept at the Vatican Apostolic Library and Amb. Mazatzin is at the forefront of the effort for its repatriation back to Mexico.
The knowledge of the celestial mechanics of time was obtained after patient study and observation and in collaboration with countless thousands of people across thousands of miles of the Western Hemisphere and spanning thousands of years and culminated in what is universally known as the Aztek Calendar. This is a 12-foot, approximately 24-ton basalt monolith uncovered on December 17, 1790, in Mexico City, that contains the 20 days of the calendar system.
The TONALMACHIOTL aka the AZTEK CALENDAR
Xiuhpoualli: The Aztek calendar consists of 18 periods of 20 days each, plus a short period of 5.25 days, totaling 365.25 days, the complete solar year. It was used for agricultural and civil purposes
Tonalpoualli, 13-day Cycle: The Tonalpoualli is the clear picture of one’s existence and cosmic mission upon the earth, recognizing we are just a piece of Time. Sometimes it has been referred to as the destiny of human beings, but I have found that it refers to the destiny of Time, as living beings make their own destiny by their own decisions. The missions are determined by identification with the potentials.
A TONALAMATL: Is a Cosmic Profile, which refers to the potential in each piece of time present when one takes that first sweet breath of life where we are correlating one’s birth date and time to the calendar and the Amoxtli. Remember every day/year sign has a Respectable Cosmic Companion that represents the potential in that piece of Time to fulfill the mission, while the Day/Year Archetypes themselves represent the mission/responsibility of that piece of Time. These are very nice and compatible potentials.
Ambassador Mazatzin shared with us that these archetypes are very instructive and effective if we use them wisely. At the same time, everyone has access to those potentials as we pass through that piece of Time. To remember these are potentials that exist and are not necessarily oneself, but the potential one has access to, so we must not take it for granted that one IS THIS OR THAT, it takes work to reach these potentials. When these potentials are used together imagine the possibilities, including subconscious activity in healing, etc.
As you can see there are so many other bits or pieces of time that result from the correlation with many potentials, and many are found and explained in his Tonalamatl Calendar Handbook, and his incredible posters that he shared with us.
Ambassador Mazatzin ends his presentation with “Blessings…be sure to PRAISE THE CORN AND KEEP THE COUNT on a daily basis on the Aztek calendar for a great relationship with mother nature at the rhythm of the cosmos… http://zemazatzin@hotmail.com
